Gujarat drought relief will provide crop-loss assistance, cattle support and additional employment in four districts declared drought-hit on October 26, 2026. The measures cover Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Porbandar.

Key Takeaways

  • Affected farmers will receive ₹8,500 per hectare for crop losses, subject to a two-hectare limit.
  • Cattle kept in relief camps will receive support of ₹80 per animal per day for two months.
  • The state plans to provide 150 days of employment in affected districts from November 1.

Gujarat drought relief for crops and livestock

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the declaration after a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar. Crop-loss assistance will be provided through the State Disaster Response Fund.

The government also announced support for livestock owners and said it was prepared to arrange additional fodder if needed. Patel said 1.21 crore kilograms of subsidised fodder had already been distributed at ₹2 per kilogram, while the state held a further 3 crore kilograms in stock.

Rainfall shortfall and water supplies

Patel said rainfall had been inadequate in the four districts despite Gujarat receiving 89% of its average rainfall statewide. The state received 810 millimetres of rain, compared with 996 millimetres by October 26 the previous year, a decline of 19%.

The government said water storage across Gujarat’s 206 major dams stood at 66%. It plans to supply irrigation water to the command areas of 76 dams during the upcoming rabi season, with one to four rotations depending on availability. It also said drinking-water reserves had been prioritised to meet needs through June 30, 2027.

Next milestone

The employment measure is scheduled to begin on November 1.
