The Anthropic IPO filing has exposed a divide among investors, with rapid sales growth and large enterprise customers set against heavy losses and substantial computing commitments. The Claude developer filed its prospectus on October 26, 2026, but has yet to set an offer price or complete its planned public listing.

Key Takeaways

  • Anthropic reported annual sales growth of 1,300% and net revenue retention of 900%.
  • The company lost $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, mostly because of changes in the fair value of convertible notes and derivative liabilities.
  • The planned Nasdaq listing still requires steps including gauging investor demand and setting an offer price.

Anthropic IPO draws contrasting investor views

Anthropic, founded in 2021, sells Claude AI models and services through enterprise contracts and subscriptions. The company reported more than 11,900 enterprise customers spending at least $100,000 over the prior year, including more than 1,900 spending at least $1 million and roughly 250 spending $10 million or more.

Five customers accounted for about a quarter of revenue in the first nine months of 2026, highlighting the importance of a small group of buyers even as the customer base expands.

Denny Fish, a portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors, described the offering as a potential generational moment for technology, while cautioning that important details remain unavailable. Redpoint Ventures managing director Erica Brescia, whose firm has invested in Anthropic, also pointed to the company’s early growth and future opportunity.

Losses and computing commitments raise concerns

Anthropic’s $80.7 billion net loss for the first six months of 2026 compared with a $12.9 billion loss in the same period of 2025. Most of the 2026 loss stemmed from changes in the fair value of convertible notes and derivative liabilities.

The prospectus also describes hundreds of billions of dollars in computing commitments and contains more than 90 pages of risk factors. Anthropic faces competition from lower-cost open-weight models.

David Trainer, CEO of financial research firm New Constructs, raised concerns about competition, insider selling and the size of the company’s commitments and liabilities relative to its cash. Roger McNamee, co-founder of Elevation Partners, warned that the offering could be dangerous for investors and argued that the industry still has much to prove.

What remains before a listing

Anthropic was valued at $965 billion in May 2026. Its final IPO valuation and offer price remain to be determined.

Before a listing, the company must seek prospective investors on its roadshow, gauge demand, set the offer price and allocate shares. It plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT.
