INS Mangrol steel supplier ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India provided all the specialised steel for the Indian Navy’s third Mahe-class anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft. The company will also supply all specialised steel required for the eight vessels in the programme.

INS Mangrol steel and the eight-ship programme

INS Mangrol has been commissioned into service. Cochin Shipyard built the vessel with more than 80% indigenous content.

The supply commitment covers specialised steel for the full fleet of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft. AM/NS India has also supplied specialised steel for other naval platforms, including INS Visakhapatnam, INS Surat and INS Malvan.

Vessel designed for shallow-water operations

INS Mangrol is designed for coastal and shallow-water operations, including anti-submarine warfare, underwater surveillance, low-intensity maritime operations and mine warfare-related tasks. Its equipment includes sensors, sonar and weapon systems.

Ranjan Dhar, AM/NS India’s director and vice president for sales and marketing, said advanced naval platforms require specialised steel produced to high standards of quality and reliability.
