India bowling plans for the two-Test series in New Zealand include keeping a group of bowlers as cover, with Arshdeep Singh among those being considered, bowling coach Morne Morkel said on October 26, 2026.
India bowling plans focus on workload
India’s management is considering retaining bowlers in New Zealand because of a schedule that includes five T20 internationals, five one-day internationals and two Tests. Morkel said the makeup of the bowling unit would become clearer closer to the series, once the team had a better understanding of conditions.
The Test series is due to start on November 19, four days after the five-match ODI series ends. Morkel said the decision to keep fast bowlers as cover was part of a workload strategy devised months before the tour.
Arshdeep under consideration for Test debut
Arshdeep has not played Test cricket for India, but Morkel said the left-arm pacer was in the conversation for the red-ball side. The coach praised his work ethic and said he was confident Arshdeep could perform if needed.
Morkel also said bowlers would be rotated during the ODIs to give them match practice and build workloads ahead of the Tests. Some players are appearing for the A-side to prepare for red-ball cricket, he added.
