Litigation partner hiring is picking up at Indian law firms as clients seek experienced counsel for corporate disputes, regulatory matters and cross-border cases. Large firms, midsize practices and boutiques are competing for specialists who can lead complex cases and bring client relationships.

Key Takeaways

  • Firms are seeking expertise in arbitration, insolvency, investigations and shareholder disputes.
  • Recent hires include partners at DSA Legal, JSA and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas.
  • Recruiters say partners’ ability to bring clients and teams is an important consideration.

What is driving litigation partner hiring

Akshay Chudasama, managing partner of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co’s Mumbai office, said hiring was driven by client demand. Indian companies are increasingly dealing with disputes across jurisdictions, including Singapore and London, while regulators have stepped up scrutiny, he said.

Chudasama identified international and domestic arbitration, insolvency litigation, infrastructure and construction claims, shareholder disputes, and regulatory and white-collar matters as areas of growth. Premal Shah, a partner at executive search firm FCL Search, also pointed to interest in sanctions, specialist intellectual property disputes and regulatory investigations.

For businesses, disputes can affect deal timelines, capital allocation, continuity and reputation as well as the outcome of a court case, said DSK Legal managing partner Anand Desai.

Recent moves and the search for clients

In October 2026, DSA Legal announced that Abhinit Das had joined its disputes practice as a partner. JSA Advocates & Solicitors also recently added partners Ankit Jain and Ishan Gaur to its New Delhi disputes team.

DSK Legal hired Khushbu Chhajed as an associate partner in its dispute resolution practice in September. In August, the firm appointed SV Giridhar and his 10-member team in Bengaluru; that month, Shaneen Parikh joined Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas as a partner after heading international arbitration at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas.

Lee Ignatius, partner and co-founder of executive search firm Vahura, said firms value partners who can bring teams and clients with them. Firms must also integrate new hires and retain their teams after a move.
