A Saudi security alert ordered non-emergency US government employees and their family members to leave the kingdom after attacks on airports and other infrastructure. The order took effect on October 23, 2026, the US Embassy in Riyadh said.
Saudi security alert covers airport travel
The embassy said attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis had caused civilian casualties and major travel disruption. It warned that hostilities could spread quickly beyond the areas already affected.
Following missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports, US government employees must obtain special authorization from the chief of mission before using any airport in the country. The embassy urged US citizens to exercise extreme caution at airports, citing the risks of further attacks, airspace closures and canceled flights.
Riyadh airport partially reopens
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh partially reopened on October 25, with domestic flights and some international services operated by Saudi national carriers permitted to resume.
The embassy said a limited number of flights normally based in Riyadh were operating from Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Qassim. Airports in Jeddah and Dammam remained open, although both experienced delays and cancellations.
