The advertisement features Acton’s mother but omits the circumstances surrounding their estrangement. Acton suffered childhood abuse, and her stepfather was charged with raping her when she was 12.
The $4 million is a planned promotional spend, not a confirmed amount already spent. Some Republicans have reacted negatively to the advertisement, while President Donald Trump approves of it.
