Raja buffalo disappeared with two other animals

The family discovered the animals missing after tying Raja near a field motor and returning the following morning. Police launched an investigation, and CCTV footage reportedly showed a Bolero camper transporting all three buffaloes. Investigators had been unable to trace them further.

Singh said Raja was difficult for strangers to handle and suspected he may have been deceived before being taken.

A long racing career

Raja competed in more than 100 traditional buffalo and bull-racing championships over 19 years. His prizes included a tractor, a car, 87 motorbikes and cash awards.

Singh’s father, Charanjit Singh, bought Raja as a calf from Harimpur village. The family had planned to honour him with a turban at the Baba Kahan Das Bull Race tournament in December before retiring him from competition.
