Philippine police have outlined security measures for the ASEAN defense meeting in Cebu from October 28 to 31, 2026, with 3,670 personnel from government agencies mobilized for security and emergency operations.
ASEAN defense meeting security plan
The Philippine National Police said deployment will cover the conference venue, accommodation areas, convoy routes and locations in Cebu City that delegates are expected to visit. Police deployment will remain in effect until November 1, after the meeting ends, to protect delegates until their departure.
The plan includes advance security inspections, traffic management, personnel deployment and contingency planning for delegate movements.
Heightened alert despite no identified threats
Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed the Central Visayas regional police and other units to maintain heightened readiness and strengthen intelligence monitoring. The regional office raised its status from normal to heightened alert despite the absence of monitored threats.
Nartatez also ordered units to validate and act on credible threat information in coordination with partner agencies. The meeting brings together defense leaders from ASEAN member states to discuss regional security and defense cooperation.
