Bayan Bayanan brings Filipino stories to Athens
The musical was staged at Theatro Parnassos by the Erehwon Art Foundation in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Greece and West Visayas State University, which provided the performers.
It portrays the lives of Filipinos living and working in Greece, including their sacrifices and connections to home. Greece is home to more than 60,000 Filipinos, many of whom work in domestic service, hospitality and maritime industries.
A play adapted for the musical stage
The production is based on a play by the late Bienvenido Noriega Jr., adapted into a musical by theater director Anton Juan. The initiative aims to build understanding between the two countries through the arts.
Maritime transport companies Akron Trade and Transport and Coral Shipping Corp. supported the project.
