Delhi school healthcare facilities have been proposed for all 1,086 government schools in the capital, at an estimated annual cost of Rs 48.87 crore. The plan would give students access to basic medical assistance on campus.

What Delhi school healthcare would cover

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the facilities would assist pupils who become dizzy, fall ill or sustain minor injuries during the school day. Each school would have a trained health worker: an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife or a multipurpose health worker.

The rooms would provide first aid, wound dressing, oral rehydration solution and a place to rest. The proposal also includes privacy arrangements and menstrual health support for girls.

The service would be limited to basic care; diagnostic testing and prescription medicines would not be available.

Phased introduction

The government plans to introduce the facilities in stages. Schools with a separate room already available would be covered first, followed by those needing extra space or porta cabins.
