Maratha quota clip released by activist Manoj Jarange has become the subject of competing political claims in Maharashtra. On October 25, 2026, Jarange said the recording was genuine and called for a forensic investigation, while denying that Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut had any connection to it.
Key Takeaways
- The recording purportedly discusses a payment of Rs 500 crore to Jarange; the allegation has not been established.
- Jarange asked Maharashtra’s chief minister and deputy chief minister to ensure a thorough investigation, including forensic examination.
What the Maratha quota clip purportedly contains
Jarange released the recording on October 22. It purportedly contains a conversation between BJP functionaries about paying him Rs 500 crore through Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, the son of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Speaking to reporters in Ankushnagar in Jalna district, Jarange alleged that people who wanted to undermine the Maratha reservation agitation were trying to discredit the recording by claiming it was generated using artificial intelligence. The authenticity of the clip and the claims in it remain disputed.
Political response and investigation demand
The Maharashtra BJP has alleged that Raut was behind the clip. Raut dismissed that allegation as baseless, and Jarange said the Rajya Sabha MP had no connection to the recording.
Jarange urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde to ensure a thorough investigation. He also alleged that members of the ruling Mahayuti alliance were protecting one another rather than establishing the truth.
Separate call for probe into farmer’s death
Jarange also called for a thorough police investigation into the death of farmer Chandrakant Shinde in Nanded. Police registered a murder and kidnapping case against the owner of a private finance company and two others after the 40-year-old was found hanging inside the company’s office.
His family alleged that the company demanded Rs 70,000 against a Rs 10,000 loan and that employees confined and fatally assaulted him before hanging his body. Those allegations have not been established.
