A Meghan Markle letter reportedly sent to her father in December 2025 addressed allegations involving child sexual abuse material and said he would not be allowed to meet her children. Thomas Markle Sr. has denied the allegations, which remain under investigation.

What the Meghan Markle letter reportedly said

The letter was reportedly sent while Thomas Markle was hospitalized in the Philippines after the amputation of his left leg. It said he would not meet Prince Archie or Princess Lilibet and that Meghan would not write to him again. The complete contents have not been independently verified.

Meghan later said she was “deeply distressed” by the allegations and that her thoughts were with any children who may have been harmed. She said her decision to remain estranged and prevent contact with her children was intended “to protect them”.

Investigation and earlier police handling

Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly said he found suspected child sexual abuse images among devices and belongings at his father’s former home in Cebu and reported the discovery to authorities. Thomas Markle Sr. has called the allegations “sick lies”. The claims have not been proven.

Philippine authorities have confirmed an investigation. The FBI has said it is aware of the allegations and would support Philippine authorities where appropriate.

Separately, Meghan said she learned of an earlier letter containing allegations in 2018 and was assured the claims were being investigated. The Metropolitan Police said it received a letter in January 2019 and passed the information to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but did not share it with other law enforcement agencies. The force is reviewing its handling and considering whether to refer the matter to the police watchdog.
