Barcelona arrests reached 128 overnight after incidents of vandalism, damage to public property and looting, Catalan police said on October 25, 2026. Police chief Silvia Cata said 73 of those detained were minors.

Barcelona arrests followed city-center gathering

Groups of young people attacked businesses after gathering in the city center for a rally that had not been declared to authorities. Cata said the call to gather had spread on social media and described the movement as disorganized.

The police chief said 23 premises were vandalized and 15 officers were injured during the night. Two of the 128 people detained had prior criminal records, she said.

Police examine detainees’ profiles

Cata said police were trying to study the profiles of those in custody. Reports concerning the minors were due to be sent to the juvenile prosecutor’s office.

Catalonia’s regional president, Salvador Illa, condemned the violence and called for those responsible to be held accountable.
