RoRo terminal fees should be removed, the Philippine Coastwise Shipping Association has urged the government, arguing that the charges add to freight costs for trucks.
RoRo terminal fees and freight costs
At the association’s general membership meeting in Cebu City, chairman Lucio Lim Jr. said the fees represent 5% to 10% of freight costs for a 10-wheeler truck. On some short-haul routes, the share can reach 15%, he said.
The association is seeking the removal of the charges; the request is not an announced government decision.

The shipping group also wants the government to examine eight proposed expressway corridors connecting production centers, ports and markets. One is a 230-kilometer route between Bogo City and Santander in Cebu.
The corridors are proposals for study, rather than confirmed construction projects.
