Global South crisis calls for diversified options

Speaking at the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan, Jaishankar called for the international economy to be urgently de-risked and for countries to have more diversified options.

He said market distortions caused by constriction and choke points added to suffering. His remarks identified areas of concern but did not announce a specific economic policy or financing package.

Discussing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, Jaishankar said societies, economies and people far from the fighting were paying a cost despite having little say in the matter.

He said India viewed dialogue and diplomacy as the only solution and was making efforts and open to working with partners. He also condemned the use of terrorism as an instrument of statecraft.
