Ginebra playoffs begin against San Miguel on October 27, 2026, after coach Tim Cone’s team beat Blackwater to secure third place in Group B of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

Ginebra playoffs follow win over Blackwater

Barangay Ginebra beat Blackwater 101-96 on October 23 to finish the elimination stage tied with Phoenix Super LPG. Ginebra took the higher seed because it had a superior point differential.

The result set up a quarterfinal against sister team San Miguel Beer. Cone said he opposed deliberately giving up a win to select a playoff opponent.

“You play the game the way you’re supposed to play, you play it hard and you play it to win, and then you let the cards fall where they may,” Cone said.

NLEX was the other potential opponent

A loss to Blackwater would have put Ginebra against NLEX in the quarterfinals. Cone said NLEX, led by new coach Jimmy Alapag, had played strong basketball throughout the conference.

Ginebra’s matchup with San Miguel is a best-of-five series. The alternative against NLEX would have placed Ginebra in a twice-to-win situation.

Next milestone

Ginebra’s series against San Miguel is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
