Gaya Manufacturing City moves into implementation
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary formally launched Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Limited at Bodh Gaya. The company is the special-purpose vehicle responsible for implementing the Gaya cluster under the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor.
The 12 memorandums of understanding cover only part of the planned site. Their proposed investment value is separate from the ₹1,339 crore approved project cost, which includes land acquisition.
The Centre approved the project on August 28, 2024. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said it is expected to attract approximately ₹16,500 crore in investment and create employment opportunities for around 110,000 people. Those figures are expectations, not confirmed outcomes.
Construction and infrastructure status
The Bihar government has taken possession of the entire project land in the Dobhi block of Gaya district. Project management consultants and an engineering, procurement and construction contractor for trunk infrastructure have been appointed, and physical construction has started.
In September 2025, the Centre released an initial equity tranche of ₹132 crore against the transfer of 415 acres. A dedicated helipad is also at an advanced stage of construction.
Planned infrastructure includes roads, water supply, wastewater treatment, power distribution, waste management and fire safety systems. The cluster is intended to serve sectors including agro-based industries, textiles, furniture, handicrafts and engineering.
Ownership and project scope
Incorporated on January 6, 2025, the implementing company is an equal joint venture between the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority and the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust.
Its responsibilities include coordinating infrastructure development, statutory clearances, utility connections and investor facilitation. The source did not specify a completion date or when individual sites would be available to investors.
