Operation Sindoor demonstrated the reach of the Indian Air Force and tested its approach to integrating weapons, intelligence and networks, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said on October 25, 2026.
Key Takeaways
- Singh said the strikes spanned 1,200 km in breadth and 200 km in depth.
- He identified air defence, electronic warfare and resilient networks among priorities for further development.
Operation Sindoor and the Air Force's lessons
India launched the four-day operation in May 2025 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, carrying out strikes against what it described as terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied territories.
Singh said the operation showed the value of combining intelligence, precision weapons, electronic warfare and air defences rather than relying on a single aircraft or weapon. He also said flexibility allowed the force to calibrate its response as an adversary changed tactics.
The air chief said some domestically developed weapons performed exceptionally and claimed that the force honoured its commitment to zero collateral damage. He also said India's networked air defences defeated drones and stand-off weapons launched by Pakistan's military.
Priorities for future operations
Singh said the force must strengthen combat capacity, intelligence and surveillance, electronic warfare, counter-drone systems, resilient networks and AI-enabled decision support. Sustaining high-intensity operations also requires logistics, maintenance, infrastructure and domestic production, he said.
He said the Air Force's Capability Perspective Plan-2047 sets long-term priorities based on emerging technologies and feeds into periodically updated ten-year plans.
