India’s opposition INDIA bloc plans a public impeachment event for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 30, 2026, followed by a march in Delhi on November 1 over alleged electoral irregularities.

Public impeachment and planned march

The October 30 event is described as a mock Parliament at Hotel Ashok, where opposition members of Parliament and senior leaders are expected. The bloc plans to announce a public verdict calling for Kumar’s removal; the event is not an official impeachment proceeding.

Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal said the subsequent Dilli Chalo march would culminate at Ramlila Maidan. He said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had contacted bloc parties about attending the two events.

Opposition protests over voter-roll revision

The events are part of opposition protests against the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls and alleged polling irregularities. The bloc is seeking Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the revision.

Congress leaders have held meetings with party units and affiliated organizations to prepare for the November 1 rally. Mahila Congress chief Alka Lamba said the party had set a target of one million participants; that is an attendance goal, not a confirmed turnout.

On October 12, opposition leaders, activists and civil society members held a March for Democracy and filed a joint petition against the revision.
