Bitcoin price fell more than 4% to $77,646 on October 30, 2026, its lowest level in six weeks, after a security breach at cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The available price report did not specify an exact observation time.

Ether fell to $2,239, a two-month low. BNB, a token originally launched for Binance fee payments, dropped more than 8% over the preceding 24 hours to $694.

The declines followed the Binance incident, though the timing alone does not establish how much of the price movement it caused.

Binance investigates the breach

Binance said its preliminary investigation suggested a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop may have allowed an attacker to access a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawals. The exchange temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals, revoked the affected address authorization and pledged to cover losses.

TRM Labs’ investigation of the transfers estimated that an attacker moved approximately $6.36 billion out of Binance wallets across ten blockchains on October 29. The blockchain analysis firm attributed the attack to North Korean group TraderTraitor with high confidence; that attribution is TRM’s assessment.

TRM estimated that roughly $2.7 billion of the assets had been frozen on-chain as of 00:30 UTC on October 30. Binance separately said around $3 billion had been frozen.
