The QBE reinsurance deal with RiverStone International has closed, covering approximately US$1.6 billion in reserves. RiverStone announced completion of the loss portfolio transfer transactions on October 30, 2026, after the agreements were first announced in August.
QBE reinsurance deal covers multiple portfolios
The transactions cover North American Middle Market and Workers’ Compensation portfolios, as well as European liability books. RiverStone’s completion announcement says the agreements were first announced on August 14, 2026.
A loss portfolio transfer is a reinsurance arrangement that transfers exposure associated with an existing portfolio of insurance losses to a reinsurer. The US$1.6 billion figure refers to reserves represented by the transactions, not a stated transaction price.
RiverStone points to existing partnership
Paul Brockman, RiverStone’s group chief executive officer, said the transactions build on a relationship with QBE developed over several years. He said RiverStone’s platform, expertise and capital allow it to address portfolios across multiple lines and jurisdictions.
