Wabtec sleeper orders worth approximately Rs 839 crore ($94 million) will supply onboard systems for Indian Railways’ Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, the US-headquartered company announced on October 27, 2026.

What the Wabtec sleeper orders cover

Wabtec will supply brake systems, doors and gangway solutions under the agreements. Its work also includes delivery, integration support, testing, commissioning and long-term operational reliability support.

The company said the systems are intended to improve service availability and passenger safety while reducing maintenance complexity. Pascal Schweitzer, president of Wabtec Transit, said the company is focused on delivering the systems on schedule.

Sleeper train expansion

The Integral Coach Factory is manufacturing 50 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, each with 24 coaches, for long-distance overnight travel. Separately, public-sector company BEML has been entrusted with designing and developing 10 trainsets.

The first Vande Sleeper service launched in January 2026. A second service, connecting Mumbai and Bengaluru, is scheduled to begin on November 1.
