The NAN Enaex facility planned for eastern India will involve an investment of ₹750 crore, as the joint venture aims to establish an integrated explosives manufacturing site by 2027.
Key Takeaways
- The first phase is planned to have capacity for 150,000 tonnes of emulsion explosives and one million electronic detonators.
- Enaex expects India to contribute 10% of its global sales, potentially reaching about $300 million.
NAN Enaex facility plans
NAN Enaex is a 50:50 joint venture between NAN GreenMet and Chile-based blasting solutions company Enaex SA. Its first manufacturing unit is planned for eastern India, close to customers and industrial infrastructure.
The planned initial capacity covers emulsion explosives and electronic detonators. The venture also intends to offer mine-to-mill optimisation services and digital and artificial intelligence-enabled tools for mining, quarrying and civil infrastructure projects.
Mining and infrastructure demand
The venture plans to offer services beyond explosives supply, with a focus on blast precision, safety, productivity and control over the effects of blasting on surrounding areas.
India’s explosives market is estimated to reach $1.7 billion by 2030 and $2.7 billion by 2035. The projections reflect expectations of demand from expanding mineral production and large infrastructure projects; they are estimates rather than realised sales.
Enaex CEO Juan Andrés Errázuriz Domínguez said precision and better fragmentation were important to improving mining blasts. NAN GreenMet co-founder and director Annanya Agarwal pointed to infrastructure and mining expansion as areas needing improved technology and safety.
