A Delhi court strike is set to affect all district courts on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as lawyers abstain from judicial work following the alleged assault of an advocate in Shahdara.
Delhi court strike follows emergency meeting
The Co-ordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi called the one-day strike after an emergency video meeting on October 26. It demanded the immediate suspension of ACP Manasvi Vashishta and the concerned station house officer pending an impartial inquiry.
The committee also appealed to members of the Bar to maintain unity. Copies of its circular were sent to the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, the Delhi Police Commissioner and principal district and sessions judges.
Dispute centers on Shahdara police response
The dispute began with a police complaint concerning an alleged assault in which advocate Lalit Bansal suffered a serious head injury. Advocate Amulya Ratan was the complainant.
Lawyers went to Shahdara police station on October 23 seeking action against those named in the complaint. The committee’s circular said police officials assured them the accused would be arrested, but the lawyers learned the following day that they had reportedly been released.
The account presented to the committee alleged that the ACP displayed his revolver and threatened lawyers when they returned to raise concerns. The committee also noted that a separate police complaint was registered against members of the Bar on October 26.
