India Post partnerships with Blue Dart Express, DTDC and Flipkart are giving private logistics companies access to the government-run postal network for deliveries in smaller towns and remote areas.

India Post partnerships target last-mile delivery

Blue Dart signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Posts on October 9, 2026, to extend delivery coverage to Tier-III and Tier-IV towns and remote locations.

In May 2026, India Post agreed to provide last-mile delivery for Flipkart shipments across urban, semi-urban and rural areas, including underserved regions. The services cover prepaid and cash-on-delivery parcels, OTP-based authentication and real-time tracking.

An April memorandum between the Department of Posts and DTDC set out plans to explore nationwide parcel delivery, cash-on-delivery services and joint logistics operations. It envisages capacity-sharing, technology integration and quarterly reviews.

How the delivery arrangements work

Under the new tie-ups, parcels can remain in a private company’s network until the final delivery leg, when India Post takes over in places the company cannot reach on its own. Some operators already use India Post by handing parcels to it at a collection centre.

Access to more than 160,000 post offices can help private operators broaden their reach without building their own delivery infrastructure. For India Post, the arrangements offer an opportunity to increase parcel volumes and make commercial use of its existing network.
