Sidhi railway connectivity reached a milestone on October 24, 2026, when a train entered the Rampur Naikin-Churhat area of the Madhya Pradesh district for the first time since Indian independence. The district headquarters remains unconnected, with an extension targeted for December 2026.
Key Takeaways
- Two newly inaugurated sections add 118 km of railway lines to the network.
- Regular services were scheduled to start on October 26, running six days a week except Sundays.
- The wider Lalitpur-Singrauli project is targeted to reach Singrauli by December 2028.
Sidhi railway connectivity: What has opened
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav virtually inaugurated the 53-km Satna-Devendranagar section and the 65-km Rewa-Churhat section on October 24. They also flagged off two trains, including the Devendranagar-Churhat MEMU service.
Passengers could travel free on the inaugural day. Regular services were scheduled to begin on October 26, operating every day except Sunday. The first arrival in the district does not yet mean trains reach Sidhi district headquarters.
A long-delayed railway project
Rewa MP Janardan Mishra said a railway line in the region was proposed in 1956. The 541-km Lalitpur-Singrauli project was sanctioned in 1997-98 at an initial estimated cost of about Rs 925 crore; its estimated cost has since risen to approximately Rs 9,000 crore.
The 165-km Lalitpur-Khajuraho section has been operational since 2016. The newly inaugurated sections add to the project, which is intended to improve connections across parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Extensions remain under construction
Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla said the next target is to extend the railway to Sidhi district headquarters by December 2026. He also said efforts would be made to extend a train currently running between Bhopal and Rewa to Sidhi once the headquarters is connected.
Work is progressing on the Sidhi-Singrauli section, including construction of 16 tunnels. The government has set a December 2028 target for extending the corridor to Singrauli.
Next milestone
The next target to watch is the planned extension to Sidhi district headquarters by December 2026.
