The Kerala cooperative airline project has received permission from the state government to launch flight services, Chief Minister V D Satheesan said on October 25, 2026. He said it would be India’s first airline operated by the cooperative sector.

Kerala cooperative airline plans

The Kerala Civil Aviation Development Cooperative Society received the state government’s permission, Satheesan said at an event in Kozhikode marking the silver jubilee of the Calicut City Service Cooperative Society.

C N Vijayakrishnan, chairman of the MVR Cancer Centre, will spearhead the project. Satheesan said a team involved in the cancer centre and the cooperative society would work with him to start the airline.

The announcement did not specify a start date, routes or fares. Satheesan described the project as planned flight services, rather than an airline already operating.

Cooperative deposit assurance

At the same event, Satheesan said the government would guarantee deposits made in the cooperative sector. He said cooperative-bank depositors should have the same assurance as people investing in nationalised and scheduled banks.

He also warned that the government would not allow corruption in cooperative societies.
