AC Logistics Holdings and subsidiary Glacier Megafridge have broken ground on an automated cold storage facility in Balintawak, Quezon City, intended to serve Metro Manila and connect it with production centers in Luzon.
Key Takeaways
- The facility is planned to have approximately 25,000 automated pallet positions.
- Operations are targeted for February 2028, subject to construction progress and regulatory approvals.
Cold storage facility planned near major routes
The project, called Green Rise Engineered Cold Chain Logistics, or GRECO, is located where EDSA meets the North Luzon Expressway. AC Logistics expects the site to provide access to retail, food service and distribution networks in Metro Manila, as well as connections to production centers in Central and Northern Luzon.
The company said the project aims to increase modern cold storage capacity near major consumer markets, with food security and supply resilience in mind.
Automation and energy plans
GRECO will use an automated storage and retrieval system with four-way shuttle technology. AC Logistics said the system is intended to provide real-time inventory visibility and faster order fulfillment while reducing manual handling in temperature-controlled areas.
The design also removes the need for forklift operations inside freeze chambers and uses system-controlled pallet tracking. The facility will use natural refrigerants, while its renewable energy strategy includes efficient systems, rooftop solar installations and potential use of available green energy programs.
AC Logistics said the project is expected to create local jobs during construction and operations, including skilled roles in automation, refrigeration, engineering and logistics.
Ownership and timetable
AC Logistics is a 60-40 joint venture between Ayala Corp. and A.P. Moller Capital and holds an 84% stake in Glacier Megafridge. The companies target February 2028 for the facility to begin operating, depending on construction progress and regulatory approvals.
