A crypto wealth survey of people who had previously invested in digital assets found that European respondents were more likely to associate cryptocurrency with lasting wealth than traditional retirement plans. US respondents favored retirement accounts instead.
Crypto wealth survey shows regional divide
Among European respondents, 19% chose cryptocurrency as the asset most associated with lasting wealth, compared with 8% who chose traditional retirement plans. In the United States, 21% chose retirement accounts and 12% chose cryptocurrency.
Real estate was the leading choice across the full sample, selected by 34% of respondents. The survey compared views of assets and savings arrangements; it did not measure their investment performance.
Pollfish conducted the OKX survey from October 14 to 18, 2026, among 1,932 adults aged 18 to 88 in the United States, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland. All had previously invested in crypto, so the findings should not be treated as representative of investors or adults generally.
Plans to increase holdings and retirement concerns
Nearly half of European respondents, or 47%, expected to increase their crypto holdings, including 13% who planned a significant increase. Across all age groups surveyed, 51% expected to increase their crypto allocation.
A separate National Institute on Retirement Security survey found broader caution about crypto in workplace retirement plans: 77% of respondents considered it risky, including 46% who said it was very risky. The study, released in August 2026, surveyed Americans aged 25 and older from October 24 to November 14, 2025. Its sample and question differed from those in the OKX survey.
