JSW Energy capacity reached 15,147 MW following additions since April 2026, while the company maintained its target to commission 3 GW of renewable capacity in FY27. In its October 5 update, the power producer said it had completed about 1.4 GW in the first half and planned to deliver the remaining 1.6 GW by March 2027.

Key Takeaways

  • Land, transmission connectivity and equipment supply are in place for the remaining renewable projects, management said.
  • Renewables account for approximately 61% of the operational generation portfolio.
  • The second-half commissioning programme remains a target, not completed capacity.

JSW Energy capacity target hinges on second-half delivery

The company’s October 5 capacity update put total generation capacity added since April at 1,694 MW. That included approximately 1.4 GW of renewables and 300 MW of acquired thermal capacity from Maruti Clean Coal & Power.

Joint Managing Director and Chief Executive Sharad Mahendra said land, transmission connectivity and equipment supply were already in place for the remaining renewable additions. He also cited a favourable second-half construction season as support for the schedule.

Those preparations address important construction requirements, but the balance of 1.6 GW still needs to be commissioned before it becomes part of the operating portfolio.

Operational wind capacity3,125 MW
Operational solar capacity2,426 MW
Operational hybrid capacity1,857 MW
Operational hydro capacity1,781 MW

Renewables make up most of the operating fleet

The operational renewable portfolio totals 9,189 MW across wind, solar, hybrid and hydro projects. Thermal capacity stands at 5,958 MW.

Jefferies said 96% of the operational portfolio was covered by long-term power purchase agreements and that upcoming capacity was largely tied to such contracts. The brokerage viewed that contractual coverage as supporting predictability in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

Construction and storage extend beyond the annual target

JSW Energy reported 32.4 GW of total locked-in generation capacity, comprising 15.1 GW operational, 14.5 GW under construction and a 2.8 GW pipeline. These categories should not be treated as capacity already producing electricity.

Separately, locked-in energy storage capacity totals 29.6 GWh: 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage and 3.2 GWh of battery storage. The company said this combination is intended to support firm, round-the-clock power supply; the locked-in total is not a measure of storage already operating.

Next milestone

The next milestone is commissioning the remaining 1.6 GW of planned renewable additions by the March 2027 financial year-end.
