The Sarvam AI agreement with India’s Ministry of Defence establishes a five-year framework to develop and deploy artificial intelligence applications across the country’s armed forces. The Indian startup announced the deal on October 27, 2026.
Sarvam AI agreement spans three services
The memorandum of understanding was signed with Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and covers the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as joint, tri-service and integrated organisations under the headquarters.
Sarvam will design, develop and deploy applications for operational, training and decision-support needs, and provide technical support. The framework is intended to let the services share common AI tools and apply lessons from one service’s projects to others.
Human oversight and project delivery
Focus areas include decision support, target acquisition and combining sensor data. Sarvam’s announcement said human oversight would be retained for operational decisions and the AI layer would be deployed on sovereign infrastructure.
Projects will be carried out through Chanakya, Sarvam’s firewalled national security and defence division, using the company’s AI technology, including its Sarvam 105B foundation model.
