Assam agarwood exports reached a new shipment milestone on October 26, 2026, when Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off a 123-kilogram consignment of agarwood chips from Guwahati to Dubai.

Assam agarwood exports draw on Golaghat production

MJI Group dispatched the chips, which were produced in Golaghat district, under the government’s One District One Product initiative. Sarma said it was the second occasion on which agarwood chips had been dispatched abroad in this manner.

The chief minister also presented cheques to three agarwood cultivators. He said MJI Group had recently initiated payments to farmers for their produce through Direct Benefit Transfer.

Airport authorization remains a goal

Sarma said the state government is seeking recognition for Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport as an airport authorized to handle exports. He said that recognition would allow agarwood products to be exported directly from Assam to international markets.

The state has also formed a task force to work toward formal recognition of agarwood cultivation, with the agriculture, industries and forests departments working together.

Sarma estimated that Assam has 120 million agarwood trees, or 81% of India’s total, and that around 50,000 farmers are engaged in cultivating them.
