FluidCloud launched vHOP on October 27, 2026, offering enterprises a VMware migration assessment that maps infrastructure and firewall policies before workload data moves. The company says the package does not depend on Broadcom's VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit, or VDDK.

Key Takeaways

  • The self-service assessment returns a plan in minutes, while an engineer-led version takes three days.
  • The package supports AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Nutanix.
  • Firewall translation is a key feature because destination platforms handle rules differently.

What the VMware migration package does

FluidCloud says vHOP uses read-only discovery through the vCenter and NSX Manager APIs to identify virtual machines, networks, NSX groups and firewall policies. It then produces a target architecture, a firewall migration plan and executable Terraform infrastructure code.

The engineer-led version also reviews whether existing migration, backup and disaster recovery tools depend on VDDK. It recommends a data path for each workload group, using either FluidCloud's migration engine or a tool the customer already uses.

Why firewall rules matter

Moving workloads requires more than copying virtual disks: network and security settings also need to be rebuilt at the destination. NSX's distributed firewall has a default rule that allows all traffic, while AWS security groups support only allow rules. That means NSX deny rules need another destination, and previously ungoverned traffic must be identified.

The launch follows Broadcom's removal of public VDDK download pages in late August 2026. Broadcom has said the kit's licensed use has always been backup and recovery and that it is not a customer entitlement.

Availability

vHOP is available in the FluidCloud platform, which customers can also buy through AWS Marketplace. FluidCloud says the self-service assessment returns a plan in minutes; the engineer-led version takes three days.
