Huawei showcased its recently launched Huawei Watch D3 blood pressure-monitoring watch at a hypertension conference in Dubai held from October 22 to 25, 2026. The company also highlighted research into wearable blood pressure monitoring, including three projects selected for support from a fund established with the International Society of Hypertension.

Key Takeaways

  • The watch uses an inflatable cuff and oscillometric technology to measure blood pressure at the wrist.
  • Three research projects were selected from more than 80 applications to the wearable technology innovation fund.
  • A separate study aims to reduce the number of cuff measurements needed during 24-hour monitoring.

Huawei Watch D3 features

Attendees at ISH-ECS 2026, a joint meeting of the International Society of Hypertension and Emirates Cardiac Society, could try the watch’s blood pressure measurement features. The D3 is Huawei’s third wrist-worn blood pressure monitor.

The device includes a mode for measuring blood pressure before and after exercise. Huawei said the mode received European Union CE certification under medical device regulations and was registered as a Class II medical device in China.

Research funding and monitoring study

Huawei and the International Society of Hypertension established the Wearable Blood Pressure Technology Innovation Fund to support research into measuring and managing blood pressure with wearable devices. Researchers involved in the first three selected projects presented their work at the meeting.

The projects involve researchers from the University of Colombo, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Cambridge and Peking University People’s Hospital. The funding will support further research using devices in Huawei’s Watch D family.

Separately, Huawei and Ruijin Hospital launched a study of a monitoring approach that combines optical sensing throughout the day with cuff measurements for calibration. The study aims to reduce cuff measurements during a 24-hour period from 27 to seven; it does not establish that the target has been achieved. Huawei plans to expand the research to countries including Saudi Arabia and Malaysia through local institutional partnerships.
