Anthropic chip supply depends on Taiwan
In its registration statement filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on October 26, 2026, Anthropic said most of the world’s most advanced chip manufacturing capacity is concentrated in Taiwan, primarily at TSMC.
The company identified military conflict, trade restrictions, economic coercion, a blockade, natural disasters and interruptions to electricity or water supplies as potential risks. It warned that disruption could be prolonged because alternative manufacturing facilities take time to establish.
Existing constraints and computing demand
Anthropic said TSMC has at times been unable to meet full demand for chip manufacturing capacity, leaving the company without sufficient chips on a timely basis. It also said limited capacity for high-performance chips and memory could restrict its ability to secure computing resources for growing customer demand.
Those resources are needed to train and deploy Anthropic’s AI models, including its Claude family. The company said availability, pricing and delivery times also depend on other IT equipment, electricity and data centre infrastructure.
Anthropic said efforts to establish sufficient advanced chip capacity outside Taiwan, including in the United States, remain at an early stage and may not materially reduce the concentration risk in the foreseeable future.
Proposed Nasdaq listing
The disclosure was included in the registration statement for Anthropic’s proposed IPO. Its preliminary prospectus says the company has applied to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol ANT.
