Vedanta Iron earnings show operating improvement

Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited reported revenue of ₹2,742 crore for Q2 FY27, down from ₹2,790 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY26. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose to ₹83 crore from ₹54 crore.

CEO Pankaj Kumar Sharma said stronger first-half operating performance was supported by improved steel realizations, higher steel volumes and efficiency initiatives. For the half year, EBITDA increased 54% to ₹598 crore, while the margin expanded by 275 basis points to 9%, CFO Navin Jaju said.

Demerger adjustments affect finance costs and interest income

Finance costs declined 60% year over year and 17% from the preceding quarter, primarily because of the settlement of inter-company payables as part of group demerger adjustments.

Interest income fell 85% year over year and 75% quarter over quarter, mainly because inter-division receivables were eliminated under Vedanta’s approved demerger scheme.

Production and shares

The company recorded first-half pig iron production of 568 kilotonnes, its highest for a half year and 4% above the prior-year period. It completed planned shutdowns at its Bokaro and Goa steel plants to support operational reliability in the second half of FY27.

Vedanta Iron also secured 21 megawatts of solar power through open access at ESL Bokaro. The initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 50,000 tonnes annually.

Shares closed at ₹27.95 on the NSE on October 27, compared with the previous close of ₹26.62. The closing price put the company’s market capitalization at approximately ₹10,929.53 crore.
