The TotalEnergies stake sale in Nigeria has been completed for $800 million. The company announced on October 27, 2026, that its Nigerian subsidiary sold its 10% non-operated interest in the Renaissance joint venture to Vaaris.
TotalEnergies stake sale details
The transaction transfers the subsidiary’s minority interest in the joint venture to Vaaris. TotalEnergies described the sale as part of its portfolio optimization and focus on core assets.
The announcement confirmed completion rather than a proposed deal. It did not specify the date on which the sale closed.
Gas license rights remain with TotalEnergies
Despite selling the joint venture stake, TotalEnergies retains full economic rights over three gas licenses linked to Renaissance. Together, the licenses account for approximately half of Nigeria’s liquefied natural gas output.
The retained rights mean the company continues to have economic exposure to those gas assets after disposing of its joint venture interest.
