Poppy campaign donations can now be made by tapping a debit card, credit card or digital wallet on a volunteer’s compatible smartphone, the Royal Canadian Legion announced as its 2026 National Poppy Campaign launched.

Key Takeaways

  • The new payment option is available through volunteers at participating branches and will also feature at provincial command offices.
  • A Remembrance mural at Toronto’s Union Station will remain on display until November 13, 2026.

How Poppy Campaign Donations Can Be Made

The Legion said volunteers at participating branches can use their own compatible smartphones to collect contactless donations. The technology, from U.K.-based Toucan Giving, is also being introduced at all Legion provincial command offices. BMO is supporting the first year of the rollout.

The phone-based option adds to existing ways to give, including 2,000 tap-enabled Poppy boxes across Canada supported by RBC. Canadians can also donate online through the Legion or give $5, $10 or $20 through its Amazon Canada collaboration to receive lapel Poppies.

The Legion said campaign donations support veterans and their families, with money donated locally used locally. It said close to $20 million is donated to the Poppy Trust Fund throughout the year, much of it during the campaign.

Remembrance Mural and Ceremony

The campaign launch also featured a 4-by-7-metre mural at Toronto’s Union Station depicting First World War veteran Allan McLean “Scotty” Davidson. It is made from thousands of handwritten Remembrance messages collected by Legion branches across Canada.

The mural is part of the Legion’s government-funded centenary initiative, Don’t Forget to Remember. The Legion plans to hold the National Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11, with a television broadcast and livestream.
