Cancer drug prices in India are set to fall for several widely used generic treatments from November 9, 2026, after a revision by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). Several expensive patented medicines, however, remain at their existing prices.

Cancer drug prices affected by the revision

The NPPA published revised prices for 543 cancer-drug brands on October 27. A pack of sunitinib capsules is set to cost ₹285.69 rather than ₹889, while a pack of 30 olaparib tablets will fall to ₹2,695 from ₹15,398.

A pack of 21 palbociclib 100 mg capsules will be priced at ₹2,068, down from ₹24,505. The medicines covered by these examples are used for cancers including ovarian, breast, lung and liver cancer.

Patented treatments remain unchanged

The listed price of a Keytruda 100 mg injection remains ₹2,16,500. Imjudo 300 mg injections remain at ₹4,17,522, and Opdyta 100 mg infusions at ₹1,09,450. Tagrisso is also among the patented treatments left unchanged. An industry source said the position is subject to further clarification from the central government.

On October 17, the NPPA listed 137 compounds for which trade margins would be capped at 30%. It also instructed companies to set the maximum retail price at the first point of sale for non-scheduled formulations. The revision comes as India’s Supreme Court hears petitions concerning high hospital trade margins on medicines.
