The Amihan season has begun in the Philippines, the national weather agency Pagasa said on October 27, 2026, forecasting cooler, drier air across much of the country.

What signals the Amihan season

Pagasa said a strengthening high-pressure area over East Asia had caused a surge of northeasterly winds over Extreme Northern Luzon in recent days.

The agency also observed rising atmospheric pressure and cooling surroundings. Together, those patterns indicated the start of the northeast monsoon, known locally as Amihan, it said.

Rough seas possible off Northern Luzon

Pagasa forecast successive monsoon surges over the following two weeks that may cause rough seas along Northern Luzon’s seaboards.

The agency said Amihan was expected to become more dominant in most areas of the country, bringing cool, dry air and episodes of cold-temperature surges. It also expected rough seas and shear lines during the season.
