AMFI training on mutual funds is planned for Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and other Indian states after more than 19,500 students in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar cleared an investor awareness test. The Association of Mutual Funds in India also plans a separate financial education pilot for school students in 15 districts.

AMFI training builds on state programmes

As of October 27, 2026, AMFI had adopted Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Meghalaya for programmes that teach students about mutual funds and careers in the sector. It is discussing a collaboration with IIM Raipur for Chhattisgarh and exploring one with IIM Ahmedabad for Gujarat.

In Andhra Pradesh, AMFI and its partners trained 54 professors and lecturers across 27 districts, who then taught more than 12,000 final-year students over four months. All those students cleared the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s Investor Awareness Test, AMFI Chief Executive Venkat Chalasani said.

In Bihar, students from IIM Bodh Gaya acted as ambassadors in schools and colleges. More than 7,500 students cleared the test under that model.

School pilot planned as postmen initiative pauses

The planned Tarun Yojana pilot will target students in Classes VIII and IX. They will learn basic financial concepts through lessons and assessments before being introduced to the investor awareness test.

Separately, a pilot to train postmen as mutual fund distributors is temporarily on hold while the Department of Posts reviews AMFI’s training programme, Chalasani said. AMFI is working with the department to resolve legacy know-your-customer issues before rollout.
