Punjab election rally plans prompted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to criticize Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on October 27, 2026, ahead of Gandhi’s scheduled November 4 appearance in Sangrur.

Punjab election rally draws Mann’s criticism

At a press conference, Mann predicted that Congress would suffer a heavy electoral defeat. He said Gandhi had the right to visit Sangrur but dismissed the likely effect of the campaign appearance.

Mann pointed to earlier visits by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, saying Congress candidates had subsequently lost their security deposits. He also mocked a recent image of Congress leaders travelling together as evidence of disunity within the party.

Mann comments on political clearance

Separately, Mann said the Punjab government would apply to India’s government for political clearance if a formal invitation arrived in connection with the upcoming Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He did not identify an invitation as having been received.

Mann also said his maternal grandparents and his in-laws’ family had migrated from Pakistan. He called for improved relations and recalled the former Samjhauta Express and Delhi-to-Lahore bus service.
