Digi Yatra trials for international passengers are scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026, at seven Indian airports. Eligible Indian nationals with e-passports can use the platform on Air India and select IndiGo international flights during the November–December trial period.
Key Takeaways
- The trials cover Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar airports.
- Passengers must still carry their travel documents and complete airline checks, immigration and other formalities.
Where the Digi Yatra trials will be available
The Digi Yatra Foundation said the trials will cover all international destinations served by Air India and select destinations served by IndiGo. A beta programme is already underway.
Eligible passengers can use the service at enabled terminal entry points, Security Hold Areas and boarding gates, subject to infrastructure availability. Passenger feedback will inform plans for a wider rollout in 2027.
How passengers can participate
Passengers need to create an e-passport-based digital credential in the Digi Yatra app. They must scan the passport’s machine-readable zone, read its embedded chip using a smartphone with near-field communication capability, capture a selfie and verify their details.
The credential is stored in the Digi Yatra wallet on the passenger’s device for use at enabled airport touchpoints. It does not replace mandatory document checks or immigration procedures.
App update changes the credential wallet
Separately, Digi Yatra has redesigned its mobile app, including its navigation, boarding pass display and credential wallet. The update adds airline-mapped boarding pass colours, clearer indicators for guardian and minor credentials, and a revised consent screen explaining what information is shared, with whom and for what purpose.
Digi Yatra has more than 26.5 million users and has facilitated over 110 million journeys.
