Aam Aadmi Party lawmaker Sanjay Singh said on October 27, 2026, that Congress’s alleged demand for 150–200 Uttar Pradesh seats in an election alliance with the Samajwadi Party was unreasonable.

Uttar Pradesh seats and alliance talks

Singh, a member of India’s Rajya Sabha, urged Congress and the Samajwadi Party to determine their seat allocation based on electoral performance. He said Congress had won two seats and about 2.5% of the vote in the previous Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, while the Samajwadi Party had won 111 seats.

Singh said Congress and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav should decide between themselves how many seats Congress should receive. His comments characterized the demand as coming from Congress; the source did not establish whether the parties had reached an agreement.

Haryana negotiations cited

Singh also pointed to unsuccessful seat-sharing talks between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections. He alleged that Congress initially discussed giving AAP six seats, then reduced the offer to four and eventually two.

AAP went on to contest the Haryana election independently, Singh said. He warned that unreasonable demands and a failure to accommodate alliance partners could benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party.
