Iran war talks were the focus of a meeting between security council chief Mohsen Rezaei and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on October 27, 2026, a day after officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan visited Tehran to seek a de-escalation.

Iran war talks and regional security

Iranian state media said Khamenei stressed the importance of pursuing Iran’s interests and maintaining its conditions for ending the war. Rezaei and Khamenei also discussed regional security, maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz and strengthening relations with neighboring countries.

Monday’s visit was the first high-level contact between Iran and the three countries since the war drew Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement into direct conflict. Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed the Mecca mutual defense pact in August.

Conditions for ending the conflict

Iran’s conditions include an end to a US blockade of Iranian ports and to US sanctions on Iranian oil exports. An Iranian official said the nuclear program would not be discussed at Monday’s meeting and would not be addressed until Tehran’s demands for ending the war were met.

US Vice President JD Vance said three weeks earlier that Iran must reduce nuclear enrichment to end the war. Iran rejects Western concerns that its nuclear program is military in nature.

The conflict began when the United States and Israel attacked Iran in February. Khamenei has not been seen in public since succeeding his slain father in March.
