How it is calculated
The total adds up the market caps of the 4,174 coins in our data that report one, the same total used for Bitcoin dominance on this site. Wrapped and staked tokens and tokenized assets are counted as listed. Prices of the largest coins refresh several times an hour and the rest about once a day; 94.5% of the total comes from prices updated within an hour of the newest one.
What total crypto market cap means
A coin's market capitalization is its price multiplied by its circulating supply. The total crypto market cap adds these values across coins and is the most common single number for the size of the crypto market. Our total covers the coins in our own market data, which include the largest assets by a wide margin, so it can differ slightly from sites that count more tokens or refresh at other times.
Bitcoin usually makes up more than half of the total, so the total and the Bitcoin price tend to move together. That is why many traders also follow the market cap without Bitcoin, and without Bitcoin and Ethereum, to see how the rest of the market is doing. On charting platforms these two figures are often called TOTAL2 and TOTAL3.
Stablecoins are part of the total. When money moves from other coins into stablecoins, the total barely changes even though other prices fall, so the stablecoin share is worth watching alongside it. Market cap is also not the amount of money invested: a thinly traded coin can show a large market cap that could not be sold at that price. The figures describe the market and are not investment advice.

How is the total crypto market cap calculated here?
We add the market capitalization of every coin in our data that reports one, which is price times circulating supply as published by CoinMarketCap. The page shows how many coins are counted and when prices were last updated.
Why does this total differ from other websites?
Each website counts a different set of coins, treats wrapped and staked tokens differently and refreshes at different times. Our total covers the coins in our own data, which can make it slightly higher or lower than elsewhere.
What is the market cap without Bitcoin?
It is the total market cap minus Bitcoin's market cap, often called TOTAL2. Leaving out Ethereum as well gives a figure often called TOTAL3. Both show how the rest of the market moves apart from the largest coins.
